Doc becomes a proper Doc.
We need another keyboard player. Someone mentions this wild keyboard player who plays at the Surya. He's brilliant, crazy, a blitzkrieg on stage, wild black mane and all. MAAD, they say! I call him up and hey he says YES! What, no attitude?
July 12, 1992: Enter Benjamin "BENNY" Pinto. He is brilliant alright and sweet as sugar. We don't know if he'll share our dream, but I know at least he won't disturb it. And when the dream comes true he'll be there. Call me prophetic. By now everyone is taking Doc's writing seriously.
August 6, 1992: Suddenly a show comes along. We start rehearsing for it on the 5th of August. Sheesh!
Something happens and Sunil packs up his Washburn and says "Goodbye, nice playing with you guys." I can't believe it. "You were pushing him too hard," everyone tells me. I pushed him as much as I push myself. Whatever the reasons, I think our dreams and the journey were not the same. He was older and perhaps wiser. A great bassist, outrageously funny, very efficient and precise at what he did. He's done exceptionally well at his job. I admire people who can hold up a regular job.
September 17, 1992: It's divine intervention, 'cause if Sunil hadn't left, D.J. wouldn't have joined. Euphoria is never going to be the same again. D.J. is the most complete musician i personally know. He can play any instrument and he brought the cool sounds of harmonies to the band! He writes songs, does arrangements, always comes to rehearsals on time and best of all is really excited about composing original pieces! Wow!
My life changes completely. We get a producer--Mr. Singh--who would love to help upcoming artists, like us, record demos!
September 25-27, 1992: We record our 4 compositions at J.K. Studios, Okhla. I am overjoyed. So, there are a few rats running around the studio but the songs sound GREAT! We think we sound good! The record companies think otherwise.
"What? Rock? No good. Some Rap maybe, dance, house... hindi, punjabi lyrics.."
"Won't work... nope... won't last."
We can't change our colours. We are a Rock band not a chameleon. No problem. Lets start doing live shows again.
