1994...the journey continues...
Personally,
I feel 1994 and 1995 are the most important years of Euphoria's career.
1994 sees us performing a lotta gigs--MAMC, IMT, LHMC, Priya, Noida, UCMS...
But something is still missing. Ah! An Album! The unfortunate thing is that the listeners are only bothered about a rock show, any rock show. They couldn't care less who is playing. So how do we get a break? No label wants to sign an English rock band in India. Its time for some serious soul searching.
It hits me one day. What label wants to sign up brown skinned boys playing an alien music in an alien language? Uh Oh! And then again, whats so great/fresh/phenomenal/outstanding about our music that 5,644,233,432.5 bands haven't already done? Do we need an image or an identity? Hmm....
It had to happen, so it did, one day. I was fooling around with my "5-string" acoustic and I made up song that went something like -- na-na-na-na-na-na. Dahlia, my poet sister, heard it and stsarted to write the lyrics to go with the naa... It eventually turned into SHA-NA-NA and got a biiig haan from D.J. and Anuj. We arranged it in Anuj's garage. Hind rock was born there. We somehow knew this was the path we had been looking to travel on for so long.
It was confirmed that we were on the right track when we played it at the Youth Quake and the crowds went wild.
Anuj sees his future in law and leaves. We don't blame him. He turned out to be a pretty good lawyer. Now we need a replacement. The choice boils down to Gaurav "Gary" Misra and Prashant Fuloria. We go with Gaurav for now. He is part of the brat pack that grew up spoilt on Steve Vais and Satrianis. He knows his "chops" well and wields his "axe" in a big way. Destiny, yet unwritten, will make him leave in a year and then have him join back in 1998. Curiouser and Curiouser.
