1997...the journey continues...
Something
strange is happening with Euphoria. We have faced so much opposition so
far that now we are actually beginning to enjoy it. We know our music is
good... we know its just a matter of time... just a little more patience...
We are getting tired of doing small gigs here and there. We are getting restless to do something more. We record 3 more demos at Roy Menezes' studio. We have known him for quiet some time now. We believe in his abilities. The demos create another small buzz. Roy's optimism about Euphoria cutting an album recharges our batteries. D.J. and Roy urge me to make the music more "dancey." No way Jose! I don't believe in the adage -- "If you can't beat them, join them." We have stuck to our guns for so long we just cannot concede defeat now. Dekha Jaayega!
I decide not to send the new demos to anyone. We'll send the songs if someone asks for them. It works! Everyone's very curious. We talk about them in interviews and perform them at shows.
February 22, 1997: We perform at another "Friends of Music" gathering. We perform 20 original compositions (10 in English, 10 in Hindi) and pass out a survey for the audience to rate the songs. The Hindi compositions make it to the top! We know we've hit a bull's eye. But, the bull is still absconding.
August, 1997: The tempting tentacles of Education lures yet another away from Euphoria. This time its Tara. She was our main backup vocalist. She was (is) talented, bright, warm and most of all unflinchingly dedicated to our cause. We pray she is happy... always.
Malancha joins us as a replacement and brings in her powerhouse, earth-shattering vocals. The practise room has been reverberating with her vocal punches to this day. Boy! Can she sing!
Our interview on Star Plus' Good Morning India is broadcast in November. Somewhere, someone sees it, smiles and sets out to find my telephone number. The search takes more than 2 months. Don't we wish we had this site then :).
Our lives are about to take a very very very big turn.
