1999...dhoom DHOOM and more dhoom !!!

"Sha-na-na-na" goes the country after our second song is released; classic rock with hindi lyrics. A little experimental, but what the hell! The Euphoria Sound starts seeping through, sinking in, settling in the minds of our listeners. The acceptance is complete with the release of our third video -- Tum -- featuring the ravishing Michelle Innes (from Dhoom Pichuck) once again and with our own Svengali, Pradeep Sarkar, producing the video on the trot. Sublime, soft and very hummable. Our tryst with DHOOM is complete, our promises made.

But the unsettled heart doesn't rest on accolades alone. I never thought to do a second album because I thought Dhoom was the best I could do, until the night of July 3, 1999. I woke up in the middle of the night humming a haunting, divine melody.

I call up Jaideep and we write a song which will be called Maaeri. Maaeri, in Dogri, my mother tongue, means 'Mother' and the song was about my relationship with my mother. She has been the strongest force in my life, and someone I could tell anything. The song spoke about my heartbreak. Jaideep put that inimitable and infectous pubjabi flavour in the lyrics and I was now all fired up to write more. And, of course, the band was behind me, every step.

Eleven songs are composed and written. My sis, Dahlia, and Jaideep co-write with me. DJ help compose the music and the entire band arranges the songs. It is the first time the current line-up of the band is working on the album as a single unified entity. It is beautiful! After years of chasing band members who are too busy or uninterested, the current crop works so well together! Just beautiful.

The album gets recorded in Mumbai, at Spectral Harmony. The only concern now is which song will be used for the first video. It is so hard to choose. So many songs are just crying out to be the first. Well, Maaeri, winsand guess who handles the reins? Pradeep Sarker, of course.

The album is all about blood and tears and now we wait with baited breath. Is the world going to listen and accept once more? Will they DHOOM again? PHIR DHOOM...
